Linh

“Like a fish steadily swimming toward the vast ocean, I have spent my life pushing beyond my comfort zone, seeking new horizons”.

Hi, Im Linh from Vietnam, an IBMBA student at the College of Management, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU). Previously, I had three years of experience in the data analytics field, working in both product-based and outsourcing firms. As data science is considered one of the “sexiest jobs of the 21st century,” I faced many questions: was it worth leaving a stable career to pursue a degree? And why international business instead of data science?

YOU WILL NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU DO IT!

After five months at NSYSU, I can confidently say that the decision was absolutely worth it. I am proud to be part of the IBMBA family and proud to share with others that my program is ranked number one in Taiwan.

Academically, the IBMBA curriculum is highly practical and workplace-oriented. Each class, we have at least one presentation, which has significantly strengthened my communication and public-speaking skills. Our program is also well known for its internationalized environment. Being exposed to diverse perspectives from professors and classmates from different countries has broadened my perspective. Through discussions of real-world cases and the analysis of academic papers, my understanding of global markets has deepened and the way I view business and the world has been reshaped. In addition, for international students like me, the program provides an excellent environment to enhance language skills, using English in the classroom while practicing Mandarin in daily life. Imagine how exciting it is to use multiple languages within a single day, Mandarin and English during the day, and mother tongue when calling family at night.

Although this is my first time living far away from my family for such a long period, NSYSU and the IBMBA program have helped me a lot in forgetting my homesickness. Once you become part of the NSYSU family, your life is filled with meaningful activities from class assignments, Office of International Affairs (OIA) activities, Student Association (SA) events, and Mandarin classes. Through OIA activities, I learned a lot about Taiwanese culture and history, while SA events helped me build close bonds with my classmates.

Before coming here, I had seen photos of NSYSU’s campus, but I did not expect such a breathtaking setting with mountains behind and the sea in front. Whenever you need to refresh your mind, you can walk to the beach and enjoy a beautiful sunset. For those who enjoy staying active, there are countless mountain trails waiting to be explored. It seems like my love for Kaohsiung is gradually getting bigger and bigger. For me, Kaohsiung is a city that beautifully balances modern development with traditional values, offering a peaceful and comfortable lifestyle. I am now truly enjoying this fresh environment filled with new knowledge, new cultures, and new friendships.

IBMBA IS WAITING FOR YOU!

For me, there is no single “best” choice, as every journey has its own value. I truly believe that my journey at NSYSU has been meaningful for both my professional and personal growth. In Vietnam, we have this sentence “cá chép hoá rồng”. Before coming here, I was still like a fish who is navigating her own path. Therefore, I am excited to see how this fish will grow into a true dragon (in the Chinese zodiac, I am a dragon ^^).
