Shikhar
My name is Shikhar Deep, and I am a 26-year-old student from India currently pursuing the International Business MBA (IBMBA) at the College of Management, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU). Before joining NSYSU, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and worked for three years as a consultant. My decision to pursue an MBA in Taiwan was shaped by a memorable student exchange experience during my undergraduate studies, which introduced me to Taiwan’s unique education style and international learning environment.
Academically, my expectations were clear from the beginning. I was deeply impressed by the interactive and practical teaching methods during my exchange semester, which motivated me to return to Taiwan for my MBA. Professionally, I looked forward to meeting people from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and gaining new global perspectives that would strengthen my consulting career. I am happy to say that the IBMBA program at NSYSU has not only met but truly exceeded these expectations.
One of the most valuable aspects of the program has been the emphasis on collaborative group projects focused on international business topics. Working with classmates from different countries has helped me understand how effective teamwork is built across cultures. These experiences have also changed how I approach problem-solving, allowing me to see challenges from multiple perspectives and arrive at more well-rounded solutions.
Transitioning from a computer science and consulting background to business education has been both refreshing and challenging. Learning new business concepts, especially in finance and strategy, has been an exciting journey. My prior consulting experience, particularly with financial firms, has been very helpful in financial analysis and decision-making courses, allowing me to connect theory directly with real-world applications.
Life at NSYSU and in Kaohsiung has been equally rewarding. The peaceful campus, located beside the ocean, offers breathtaking views and a refreshing atmosphere. Even the famous campus monkeys add a unique charm to daily life. The people here—students, faculty, and staff—are incredibly friendly, supportive, and welcoming. I have participated in sports activities, multiple group projects, and several industry visits, all of which have enriched my academic and cultural experience.
As an international student from India, adapting to Taiwan’s scooter culture was my biggest cultural surprise. What I enjoy most, however, is the incredibly convenient lifestyle and the beautiful natural environment, which makes daily life both comfortable and refreshing.
Looking ahead, the IBMBA program at NSYSU is preparing me strongly for my future in consulting, particularly within financial firms. The knowledge, international exposure, and professional network I am building here are shaping me into a more confident and globally minded business professional.
