Nicole

Hi everyone, this is Nicole speaking. After finishing my bachelor’s degree at NSYSU, I decided to continue pursuing my master’s degree here as well. There are several reasons why I chose to stay at NSYSU.

First of all, Kaohsiung is my hometown. I love everything here—the sun, the food, the sea, and more. Everything here makes me feel connected to Kaohsiung. Basically, Kaohsiung is my comfort zone. What’s more, we have a wonderful school, NSYSU, so there is no reason for me to leave my comfort zone.

Why choose GHRM?

I majored in Finance during my undergraduate studies, but I later realized that I am more of a “people person.” I prefer interacting with people rather than working with numbers. I emphasized many times during my interview that I really enjoy interacting with people. No one interacts with more people than HR professionals, which is why I am here.

Furthermore, we have the opportunity to study abroad during our master’s program. This is a fantastic opportunity for travel lovers like me. I also enjoy making friends with people from different countries. In my opinion, talking to people from different backgrounds helps me learn new perspectives and broaden my horizons. With all of the above, I believe GHRM is the best place for me.

What I learn from GHRM

The first thing is definitely cross-cultural communication. In GHRM, we will meet people from all over the world. We may face language barriers, different presentation styles, or even different eating habits during lunch. All of these are valuable learning experiences. After going through these challenges, I believe we will become more understanding, empathetic, and thoughtful.

Second, critical thinking is also an important skill in GHRM. We learn how to evaluate situations in a systematic and logical way. This skill enables us to handle problems more effectively and efficiently. As future HR professionals, we need to know how to solve problems smoothly and successfully. That is why we often use critical thinking in case studies.

Third, I would say crisis management. During a master's life, we may face multiple deadlines at the same time. For example, the deadline of a final report is in one hour, but your teammate has not finished their part yet. In this situation, we learn crisis management. Don’t worry—everything will be fine. A small final report won’t kill you.

For future students

Be open-minded. You will meet many different people here. Don’t judge others too quickly. Try to get to know everyone you meet. After all, you never know when you might need their help.

Be strong. You may face challenges you have never experienced before, but after going through them, you will become a better version of yourself.

Don’t be anxious. Everyone has their own pace in life. Just focus on your goal and keep moving forward. Don’t let others’ pace affect yours.
